Tilicho Lake in Nepal is a glacial lake situated at an elevation of 4,919 meters is a unique lake. The lake’s water remains enclosed within the lake as it has no natural water source inflows, nor is there a defined outlet for water to flow away. Recently, a new trekking route opened from Mustang to Tilicho which allows visitors to reach the lake and return within 2 days. It is a great opportunity for travel enthusiasts or visitors having a limited time or seeking adventure. During the trek, admire the surrounding scenery such as Nilgiri Himal, Namkhu Lake, Dhumba Lake, Hyarzhu viewpoint, and rich Thakali art and culture.
Jomsom is the starting point of this trek. It follows the route that passes through Thini in Gharapjhong Rural Municipality. Before the discovery of the new route, the Chame to Khangsaar is the popular route to reach Tilicho which is still being used.
New Route: Jomsom – Thini – Namkhu Lake – Nilgiri Icefall – Chema Lake – Mesokanto Pass – Tilicho Lake

The chairman of Gharapjhong Rural Municipality, Mr. Mohan Singh Lalchan shared that the new trekking route is in operation and being used by internal tourists as of now. He also further mentioned that the new route was constructed with the collaboration of the rural municipality and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP). Now, visitors can complete the Tilicho Lake trek within just 2 days.

Several internal tourists such as locals, employees, and businesspeople from Myagdi and Mustang districts are following the newly opened trekking trail to visit Tilicho via Jomsom. Visitors must cross the Mesokanto at an elevation of 5,099 meters before reaching the Lake. Also, manage food and camping materials on your own as there are no hotel or restaurant facilities along the route.
Tulan Budhamagar from Fulbari, Malika Rural Municipality-4, shares his trekking experience as mesmerizing upon witnessing the serene blue lake surrounded by mountains which made him forget his fatigue. He shares that this trek takes a 2-hour vehicle ride from Jomsom. Then, trek for 6 hours to reach Mesokanto Pass. From the pass, walk for an hour to reach the heavenly Tilicho Lake.
