The best seasons are Spring (March–May) and Autumn (September–November), when the weather is stable and mountain vistas are clear. Being in a rain-shadow region, this area receives very little rainfall, so trekking is possible even during the monsoon, though trails may be slippery and visibility less clear. In winter, this trek is not possible as heavy snowfall occurs and the region is closed for trekking.

Day 01 Kathmandu arrival

Elevation: Kathmandu (1400 m) 30-minute hotel drive.

Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, an Outdoor Himalayan Treks representative welcomes you and transfers you to the hotel. Introduction with a guide, check the trekking gears. Night in the hotel.

Day 02 Trek Preparation Day

Elevation: Kathmandu (1400 m)

Shortly after breakfast in the morning, you will meet your trekking team, including the trek guide, in our office. He will brief you about the trek. If you wish you will proceed on a guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley (Extra cost will be applied). We will cover as much of the UNESCO heritage sites that showcase the rich cultural heritage from medieval Nepal as possible during the sightseeing. We also complete all preparations for the trek during the day.

Day 03 Fly to Nepalgunj

Elevation: Nepalgunj (150 m) 50-minute flight, 30-45 minute hotel drive

Have breakfast and take a domestic flight to Nepalgunj. Get transferred to the hotel with our representative. Later, visit nearby places, the famous Bageshwori temple, and stroll the nearby markets.

Overnight stay in Nepalgunj.

Day 04 Fly to Simikot

Elevation: Simikot (2950 m)

You will fly to Simikot airport in the morning and have breakfast. Acclimatize and explore the small district center with beautiful view of gorges and terraced farms. Spend the night in Simikot.

Day 05 Trek to Dharapuri

Elevation: Dharapuri (2300 m) Approx. 4-hour Trek

Descend through pine and rhododendron forests, crossing Humla Karnali River by bridge. Follow the gentle downhill trails viewing the beautiful riverside scenery and traditional Humla villages to Dharapuri. Overnight stay in Dharapuri.

Day 06 Trek to Kermi

Elevation: Kermi (2670 m) Approx. 3-4 hour Trek

Walk the gentle uphill trail along the river from Dharapuri. Ascend the gorge of Humla Karnali River after reaching a beautiful waterfall known as Chaya Chahara, where you can enjoy a short leisure time. The final destination of this day is Kermi where you’ll discover charming Tibetan-influenced villages, monasteries and hot springs. Stay overnight in Kermi.

Day 07 Trek to Yalbang

Elevation: Yalbang (3020 m) Approx. 5-hour Trek

The trek from Kermi to Yalbang takes you on a scenic trail that follows a mixed terrain of gentle climbs, terraced fields, and forested paths, offering both adventure and comfort. The trail consists of crossing the suspension bridge over Salli Khola and continuing to ascend above the Humla Karnali River towards Yalbang. Here, you’ll witness the rich local culture of the Limi Valley. Spend the day with the Monks and local people, learning about their lifestyle and stay overnight there.

Day 08 Trek to Tumkot

Elevation: Tumkot (3380 m) Approx. 5-hour Trek

The trek from Yalbang starts through lush meadows and scattered forests. Along the trail, you cross the Karnali River on a wooden suspension bridge and then ascend the upper side of deep valley. This trail rewards you with stunning valley views and glimpses of traditional Humla settlements, showcasing the region’s authentic Himalayan lifestyle. After reaching Tumkot, you can visit and explore Mota Gompa and stay overnight in a comfortable teahouse or homestay experiencing local hospitality and peaceful environment.

Day 09 Trek to Yari

Elevation: Yari (3700 m) Approx. 4-5 hour Trek

This trail features a gradual ascent through a wide, scenic valley. You’ll witness the change in the environment from the greenery to rocky and isolated landscape. This segment marks the entrance to the enchanting Limi Valley. With the panoramic mountain views, you also get a glimpse into remote village life. Overnight stay in Yari.

Day 10 Trek to Hilsa, across Nara La

Elevation: Nara La (4620 m), Hilsa (3720 m) Approx. 6-hour Trek

This part of the trek is challenging as it begins with a steep ascent to the high-altitude Nara La Pass, offering stunning panoramic Himalayan vistas. You’ll witness prayer flags fluttering in the wind with the view of Mount Kailash, making the trek spiritual. After spending some time in the Pass, gradually descend into the picturesque border village of Hilsa. Experience rich culture, tradition and the mountain life of that region and stay overnight in Hilsa.

Day 11 Trek to Manepeme

Elevation: Manepeme (3900 m) Approx. 5-6 hour Trek

After leaving Hilsa, continue with the trek through dry, desert-like canyon trails with occasional river crossings in one of the most remote parts of the region. The off-the-beaten-path, offering vast barren landscape with stunning high-altitude scenery, carries on to Manepeme. You’ll spend the night in Manepeme, experiencing the authentic experience of local mountain life.

With an ascent from Manepeme via a high and steep rocky trail, leaving Humla Karnali behind, you enter the Limi Valley. The trail consists of a rocky trail winding through river valleys with a gradual ascent. Immerse in the Tibetan culture, passing high-altitude settlements and visiting serene monasteries of the Limi Valley. After experiencing the spiritual heritage and authentic culture of local people and the region, stay overnight in Til village.

Day 13 Trek to Halji

Elevation: Halji (3660 m) Approx. 3-4 hour Trek

This is a relatively easy part of the trek along the valley floor, passing through gentle forested patches. This section offers a peaceful glimpse into traditional Limi Valley life, with quiet, remote surroundings. Entering Halji is a wonderful experience as you observe its spiritual environment with prayer flags, Tibetan stone sculptures, ancient monastery, and local traditions of that area. After exploring the area, spend overnight in Halji.

Elevation: Jang (3930 m) Approx. 4-hour Trek

This part is a gentle trek through scenic valleys with small ascents. You’ll encounter historic villages and Tibetan-style monasteries, offering insight into the rich cultural heritage of Limi Valley. The destination of this day, Jang village, is the last village of the Limi Valley. Experiencing the authentic mountain village and culture of Jang, you spend the night here.

This part of the Simikot Hilsa Limi Valley Trek features a gradual ascent through open pasturelands and rocky paths. You’ll need to cross multiple wooden bridges on the rivers and streams on this path to reach Talung. Stay overnight in Talung.

Elevation: Nyalu La (4,940 m), Shinjungma (3620 m) Approx. 8-hour Trek

This is a challenging part where you’ll ascend the highest point of the entire Simikot Trek – Nyalu La Pass, standing at the 4,940m. The route begins with a demanding, steep climb to Nyalu La, offering spectacular 360o Himalayan views and dramatic high-altitude landscapes. After the pass, gradually descend to a remote camping spot in Shinjungma following the Sali River. Spend the night in Shinjungma.

Elevation: Kermi (2670 m) Approx. 7-hour Trek

Descend through the long forested trail and small Himalayan villages from Shinjungma. This section follows the Sali River to get back to Humla Karnali River bank. It is a gentle return to lower-altitude terrain, providing a relaxing conclusion to the high Himalayan part of the trek. Stay overnight in Kermi, enjoying the local hospitality and scenery of this region.

This part of the trek follows easy ridge and river paths back to the district center. Overnight stay in Simikot.

Day 19 Fly to Nepalgunj and then to Kathmandu

Elevation: Nepalgunj (150 m), Kathmandu (1400 m)

Take a morning flight from Simikot to Nepalgunj and rest for a while before taking another flight to Kathmandu. Transfer to a hotel upon reaching Kathmandu. Rest and relax in the city and join us for the cultural farewell dinner in the evening.
