Outdoor Himalayan Treks is led by its founder and Managing Director, Mr. Rajendra Prasad Sapkota, the visionary force behind the company’s inspiring journey since its establishment in 2004. Fondly known as Raj among clients and friends, he is a highly respected and trusted professional in Nepal’s tourism fraternity.
A truly self-made entrepreneur, Rajendra’s life story is as inspiring as the mountains he calls home. He is not only a successful businessman, but also a devoted family man, a committed social worker, and a strong advocate of Public–Private Partnership (PPP) for the sustainable development of Nepal’s tourism industry. His ability to balance leadership, responsibility, and compassion speaks volumes about his character and integrity.
Rajendra’s journey began humbly. As a teenager, he started his career as a porter, carrying loads along the rugged Himalayan trails. Through hard work, perseverance, and passion, he steadily rose to become a professional trekking guide, repeatedly traversing Nepal’s most iconic routes. From towering peaks and deep valleys to high passes and remote ridges, he knows the Himalayas intimately—indeed, one might say the mountains know him even better.
Beyond trekking, Rajendra expanded his vision into the hospitality sector, where his instincts once again proved right. He is the founder of Hotel Friends Home (2013) and a family-run Friends Apartment, operated together with his wife. These establishments are widely appreciated for their warm hospitality, personalized service, and guest-centric philosophy.
In recognition of his significant contribution to Nepalese tourism, Rajendra was appointed an Executive Member of the Nepal Tourism Board in 2015. During his three-year tenure, he worked passionately to promote sustainable tourism through effective PPP models and played an active role in the Ghumphir 2073 Campaign, both within Nepal and internationally.
A seasoned traveler himself, Rajendra has visited numerous countries across Europe, the Middle East, the Americas, and the Asia-Pacific region, attending international travel trade fairs and building strong global networks. These experiences have further enriched his understanding of international tourism trends and evolving guest expectations.
Within Nepal, he has explored nearly all major trekking regions—including Everest, Annapurna, Langtang, and Manaslu—as well as remarkable cultural and natural destinations such as Rara Lake, Bardia National Park, Lumbini, Mustang, Khaptad, and Pathivara.
Rajendra’s extensive experience enables him to design thoughtfully customized trekking routes and travel experiences, carefully tailored to clients’ time, budget, fitness level, and personal interests. Known for his humility, warmth, and genuine desire to help others, he effortlessly connects with people from all walks of life. Despite his many achievements, he remains refreshingly down-to-earth, a quality deeply appreciated by clients and colleagues alike.
