trip Overview

Tamur Rafting Expedition is a classic waterway adventure about 120 kilometers. It takes you on a roller coaster ride of more than 100 rapids. Take a chance to be among the pioneer rafters to name and also navigate them! There is a lot more than a typical rafting trip on the Tamur rafting expedition. Its steep canyon walls, its constricted channel between wild, looming cliffs, its mysterious, unending gorges, and its mighty rapids leading from one to the other add up to a magnificent adrenaline-filled experience of your life.

You can get a chance to unleash yourself at the extreme in its wild stretches and wildly spectacular campsites. As you erect your camp for the night, you won’t just share some drinks; you will also have incredible stories to share with your teammates about what you had experienced, what you came into, what you came over and how you felt all the time during the day!

The Tamur River starting from around Kanchenjunga is Nepal’s sixth largest river. It was first navigated in 1990 and only a few following expeditions; its waters are still testing and still to be exploring in detail. The river consists of rapids which ranging from 3 to 4, a few even 5, except for in rainy seven. The put-in point of the trip is in Dovan of Taplejung district which is the gem of far eastern Nepal. It is approached by the 5-day trek through pristine settlements and the age-old wilderness of the district. More of the untouched river-fed wilderness awaits you during the six-day tour through the journey that we halt at Chatara, which is also the put-out point of SunKoshi rafting adventure.

Itinerary

As you arrive at the airport in Kathmandu, our staff will receive and transfer you to your hotel. If you get free time, you can explore this culturally rich city.

Have breakfast in the morning and fly to Biratnagar that takes about an hour. From there, we drive to a beautiful hill-town Hile in Dhankuta district and stop there for the night.

We get up in the morning, have breakfast and drive to Basantapur from Hile. From here we start our five-day trek to Dovan, the entry point of the rafting trip. We walk through typical hill settlements, terraced hillsides, and forests of rhododendron and other trees. We also need to cross a pass going over 10,000 feet that thrills us with amazing views of Mt Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and Mt Everest.

On the eighth day, we embark on the classic, mind-blowing rafting trip down the Tamur River. Mighty rapids thrust you upwards towards the sky, drenching you with the snow-fed cold water. Your journey steep canyons, narrow gorges and wild, surging rapids that frequently test your spirit to the full. The trip is punctuated by some small fishing villages and some monkeys loitering in the river banks. Otherwise, there are all action-packed forward movements with a lot of wilderness. The campsites are also spectacular, etching the memories of a lifetime in your brain. Finally, we end our rafting trip at Chatara on the last day and drive back to Biratnagar to board a flight to Kathmandu.

We drop you at the airport and pay you farewell, hoping to welcome you the next time.
