Itinerary

Our office staff will meet and greet you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer you to your hotel.

As we make the necessary preparations, which incluses obtaining a Chinese visa, you will enjoy sightseeing through numerous UNESCO enlisted heritage sites of Kathmandu.

Board a flight early in the morning from the Tribhuvan International Airport. The flight takes you across the majestic Himalayan range. In an hour, you will land at Gongar International Airport. There the Chinese guide receives you. Then you will drive to Lhasa for a couple of hours and rest for the rest of the day.

Lhasa is the capital of Tibet. This city is full of ancient cultural heritage. We visit some of the most popular monuments like the Jokhang temple, the Sera monastery, and Norbulingka, which served as the summer palace of the Dalai Lama. You cannot help but steep yourself in the deep, devout religious ambiance surrounding these areas. As one day is not enough to see what Lhasa offers, we dedicate the second day as well. On the second day, we visit other landmark monuments like the Potala Palace and Drepung Monastery.

This day consists of a long and exciting drive of about 7 hours. There are two high passes on the way: Khamba La (4794m) and Karo La (5045m). The vast panorama of Tibetan plateau including lakes and peaks awaits you at the top of these passes. Stop for a while, soak up this charming panorama, and continue your journey. It takes about 7 hours to reach Gyantse across numerous valleys and typical Tibetan villages.

We make a short visit to the Gyantse Dzong in the morning and have a birds-eye view of the Gyantse valley and its surroundings from there. Then we also go to Gyantse Kumbum, the biggest stupa of Tibet, teeming with Tibetan paintings and sculptures and boasting of the golden dome. Then we drive to Shigatse, which takes about 2 hours.

We drive to Tingri today, stopping at Natang monastery and Sakya monastery en-route. Do not forget to have a look at one of the world’s largest book written in gold in the library of Shakya monastery. On the way of our 6-hour drive lies Gyamto La Pass (5220m), numerous monasteries, and possibly the camps of nomadic herders.

As soon as we reach Pang La (5150m), we are greeted by the marvelous view of the Himalayas. Mt Makalu, Shisapangma and Mt Everest show their majesty to us. Today we visit Rongbuk Monastery, built in the midst of meditational huts sprawling in the mountainside.  They exude holy aura upon the heights.

We have a breathtaking view of the north face of Mt Everest after we reach the base camp. It can be easily reached on a local bus or through a horse ride. With no other mountains around to impede the superiority of the world’s tallest mountain, you can appreciate the sheer grandeur of Everest from very close. We then have lunch and drive to Tingri.

The Himalayan views are not so quick to abandon you.  En route from Tingri to Zhangmu,  there are two high passes: Lalung La (5124m) and Shung La (5200m) that offer a vast yet marvelous Himalayan vista of Shisapangma, Cho Oyu, Melungtse, Gauri Shankar and others.

We move from Zhangmu today, reach the Nepal China border, pay goodbye to Tibetan guide, complete the customs formalities at Kodari and drive to Kathmandu.

We drop you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and give you a warm farewell.
