  Manaslu Trek

  Manaslu trek

The Manaslu region lies near the Tibetan border and was opened for tourists only in mid 1990's. This region is explored by less number of visitors than others. Although the usual duration for trekking around Manaslu is generally more than 3 weeks, we offer you a perfect tour of the region that you can complete in 18 days.

Our scenic journey starts from Gorkha (origin of the former Shah Kings) to where you will be transferred either from Kathmandu or Pokhara or any other convenient location. After a night's stay at Arughat Bazar of Gorkha, we shall begin our trek next morning. Following the source of Budhi Gandaki River, our trail passes through sub-tropical forests, meadows and green hills, from an altitude of about 700 m (Arughat) to 5,212 m (at Larkya-La pass, the highest point).

Our professional and experienced guides will be constantly be monitoring your progress to ensure that you can safely adapt yourself with the rising altitude everyday. They will also be your connection in all the villages on your way so that you can have a truly local experience of the rural life in some of the least known regions of Nepal.

As a well deserved reward for your tiring walks for over 2 weeks, you will have ample time to savour some spellbinding views of the Himalayas including Mt. Manaslu and the Annapurna Range. On your return journey, you will reach Pokhara via Beshi Sahar.

  Itinerary in Detail

Day 1: Kathmandu to Arughat Bazzar (700 m). We begin our journey from Kathmandu, taking a bus to Arughat Bazar, which normally takes about 7 -8 hours. After leaving the valley of Kathmandu behind at Thankot we take a descending and winding road running alongside the Trishuli River. We stop at Dhading Besi for lunch and then head to Arughat Bazar, where we will stop for the night.

Day 2:

Trek to Seti Khola (730 m). Today we start trekking and after about 6-7 hours of walking, we will finally arrive at Seti Khola (Khola = River in Nepali). On our way, we will pass through Kuere Pani village where people from different ethnicities like Gurung, Brahman, etc. live in harmony. We will stay in a local teahouse at Seti Khola.

Day 3:

Trek to Machha Khola (930 m). We resume our trek in the morning and cross Lapu Besi, a small Tamang village and ten follow Budhi Gandaki River. It will be a nice experience for us because of the scenery throughout the 6-7 hours walk. At Machha Khola we will settle for the night.

Day 4:

Trek to Dovan (1070 m). Today we will walk less, only about 5-6 hours. We shall stop at a natural hot water spring on the way for refreshment. Lunch will be served at a local lodge nearby. Almost 2 hours later we will reach our accommodation at Dovan and spend the night there.

Day 5:

Trek to Jagat (1410 m). Our goal for today is to reach Jagat in about 7 hours after leaving from Dovan. We shall cross a typical Nepalese style suspension bridge on our way and also pass through the village of Lauri. Budhi Gandaki River will be sighted several times.

Day 6:

Trek to Nyak (2240 m). It is our plan to walk along the ascending trail up to Nyak, which normally takes about 6-7 hours. We get to see interesting places like Sidibas and Satibas Tara. Besides, excellent views of Budhi Gandaki River as well as Manaslu mountain range may delight us on our way, tempting us to make some good use of our cameras.

Day 7:

Trek to Ghap (2165 m). We continue walking alongside Budhi Gandaki River, through the villages of Pewa and Deng. If the visibility is good enough, we can see Himchuli Peak. The local people we meet on our way are mostly from Gurung ethnicity, leading a very basic lifestyle. Our 6-7 hours long trek involves a good deal of walking uphill.

Day 8:

to Namrung (2582 m). Of nearly 6 hours of walking to be done today, the last part routes through a jungle along an uphill trail, straining our feet a bit extra. Buddhist stupas can be seen on the way and we have our lunch at a small local shop. Our accommodation for the night is a local house at Namrung.

Day 9:

Trek to Lho (3180 m). After freshening up in the morning we resume our trek and cross a small village of Limi. Later, we enter a stone gate and visit an old monastery. We will not miss the fascinating view of Peak 29 as far as the weather permits. In the evening we shall explore the Lho village which is inhabited by peaceful people, mainly monks and students learning Buddhism.

Day 10:

Trek to Samagaon (3525 m). We have a shorter and easier trek today, completing in about 5 hours. Syala and Mane Wala are the two main settlements that lie on our way. After crossing a wooden bridge, we will walk until we reach our local style accommodation in the village of Samagoan.

Day 11:

Acclimatisation day. Before we can go any higher, we need to acclimatise properly and there would be no better place than Samagoan to do so. It is a bigger village as compared to others in the region, inhabited mainly by Gurung people. We can explore the village, observe the lifestyle of the locals and also visit two monasteries and spend some time with the monks.

Day 12:

Trek to Samdo (3860 m). Once we leave the village of Samagaon behind, we will not come across any major settlement throughout our 4-5 hour trek until we finally arrive at Samdo. We will stop for the lunch, get some rest and in the afternoon explore the village. It happens to be the last village in this region.

Day 13:

Trek to Dharmashala (4460 m). Today we need to walk for not more than 5 hours and a frozen lake will be sighted on the way. After arriving at Dharmashala, we will setup our tents for camping at night because there are no villages in the vicinity.

Day 14:

Trek to Larkya Pass (5135 m) and descend to Bimthang (3610 m). The most exciting part of our entire trek begins today early in the morning (usually before 5 AM). Some may find it strenuous, but with the help of our experienced guides and porters, we should not face any major difficulty during the 10 long hours of walking.

In about 4 hours we ascend to the highest point, Larkya Pass, which offers excellent views of Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Lamjung, Mt. Phungi, Mt. Cheo and more. We will spend ample time for taking photographs of the Himalayan range. Afterwards, we walk downhill and in about 5 hours arrive at Bhimtang, where we shall spend the night in a local house.

Day 15:

Trek to Dharapani (1860 m). After some refreshment we resume our journey. We expect to complete the mostly downhill trail in less than 7 hours, following Marsangdi River. After walking past the village of Tilje, we stop for lunch, take a short break and then visit yet another monastery. Finally, we descend to Dharapani, our stopover of the day.

Day 16:

Trek to Bahundada (1310 m). We aim to reach our last stopover of the entire trek by walking for about 7 hours, mostly downhill. On our way we get to enjoy beautiful scenery and walk through a village. We shall spend our last night in a local teahouse at Bahundada. By that time, we will have collected unforgettable memories and maybe we can share our experiences before and after dinner.

Day 17:

Trek to Bhul Bhule and drive back to Kathmandu. We conclude our extraordinary trek by walking all the way to Bhul Bhule. From there, we take a bus back to Kathmandu. The drive normally completes in 6-7 hours. While some of us may be more excited about getting back to city life, some may still be absorbed in the memories of the last 16 days spent in rural areas of Nepal.

We hope, and will try our best to ensure that, you will have one of the best trekking experiences of your life.
