Nepal is a paradise for lovers of wildlife and jungle adventures as it is home to countless species of flora and fauna. There are many sanctuaries and wildlife parks in Nepal and Royal Chitwan National Park is widely known amongst domestic and inbound tourists. Declared in 1979 by UNESCO as a Natural Heritage Site, the park covers some 932 sq. kms. of area of deciduous forests by the banks of rivers like Narayani, Rapti, and Reu and is located in southern central Nepal.
The headquarter of Royal Chitwan National Park is situated at Kasara which is at a distance of about 21 kms from Bharatpur. Many resorts, lodges and hotels of different categories are available for accommodation in the park area.
This park is renowned for its rich and diverse ecosystem. It is considered as a huge natural observatory to watch and understand the lifecycle of many mammals, birds, reptiles as well as aquatic animals. It is also conserving about 500 Asian one-horned rhinoceros and several hundred nocturnal Royal Bengal Tigers living in its densely forested grounds. Likewise, rhesus monkeys, grey langurs, deers, leopards, wild cats, wild boars etc. are abundantly found here.
For jungle walks too, this park is an ideal place as it has a vast stretch of forest of towering trees and twisting vines. The park area and its surrounding areas hold great cultural values. More specifically, you can witness the lifestyle and culture of ethnic Tharu people. You can also enhance your experience by participating in one or more cultural programs conducted especially for visitors.
