
Located in the northeastern part of Nepal, the Everest region (Khumbu) is actually a part of Solukhumbu District and has one of the three major settlements of the legendary Sherpas. The region’s elevation varies from 3,300 m to 8,848 m at the top of the world, Mt. Everest (known as Sagarmatha in Nepali). It also encloses Sagarmatha National Park Sagarmatha National Park Buffer Zone. Further east lies Makalu-Barun National Park.
You will find well-developed trails to Everest Base Camp and trekking routes leading to several remote areas of semi-wilderness. Besides the famous town, Namche Bazaar, there are villages of Thami, Khumjung, Pangboche, Pheriche and Kunde and Tengboche monastery. |
