This rewarding journey covers such legendary sites as the Taktsang Monastery in Paro built in honor of the founder of Nyingmapa sect of Tibetan Buddhism, Guru Padmashambhva, stupas and monasteries in and around Thimpu, the ancient forts of the country like Tsronga Dzong, and the Kurjee Monastery where Bhutanese kings are cremated. In Bumthang, you will encounter the mystic “Burning Lake” and in Gangtey, the abbot of the monastery is the ninth reincarnation of the Guru Padmashambhava.
As you travel from place to place, you will discover amazing myths and legends associated with almost every hill, hillock, plains, and rivers. Furthermore, the trip also gives you a chance to acquaint yourself with the geography and ecology of Bhutan. While the treks and drives sometimes go over high passes and yak pastures in alpine regions, you will also pass through sub-tropical regions with their own forests and farmlands.
