Situated in the Western Development Region of Nepal, the Annapurna region is considered one of the best trekking destinations in the world, visited by more than 40,000 tourists (about 66% of the total trekkers) entering Nepal annually. The underlying reasons are straightforward - the region covers about 55 kms of the Himalayan range, is fairly accessible and showcases an incomparable diversity of terrain, landscape, culture and flora and fauna.
The trails in the Annapurna Region will take you through lush green foothills, alpine meadows, barren lands, windswept desert-like plateaus, deep gorges, natural hot springs, glaciers, rivers, rapids, ancient trade routes, villages with some very old settlements, temples, lamaseries, etc., giving you ample grounds to understand the Himalayan natives and their way of life.
Annapurna I, II, III, IV, Annapurna South and Mt. Dhaulagiri are some of the major peaks you can view very closely during your trek in the Annapurna Region. Moreover, places like Manang, Ghorepani, Poonhill, Mustang, Jomsom, Thorong -La pass, Kali Gandaki gorge and many more are there for you to discover. Almost all treks to the Annapurna Region originate from the valley of Pokhara, famous not only for its serene lakes but also for broad choice of accommodations, interesting places to visit and activities to take part in. |
